How it works

We have open selling and trading two days a week, Fridays and Mondays from 11am to 4pm. During those hours you can bring in up to 50 books to sell or trade without an appointment. For larger collections, more than roughly 50 to 60 books, please request an appointment so we can keep wait times down for everyone.

We are very selective about the books we take, but we buy a lot of books in almost every category and genre. We need to see the books in person to make a final determination. Please note that we do not make house calls or take donations. To donate books, please contact your local library or thrift store.

Make an appointment

For larger collections, or if Fridays and Mondays do not work, call the store at (619) 501-7466 during business hours to arrange a time. For appointments we will want to see a few photos of the books, or at least a cross section, to get a sense of what you have.

What we are looking for

  • Popular, recently published literature, preferably paperbacks
  • Horror and contemporary romance
  • Recent or classic science fiction and fantasy
  • Popular middle grade series and YA graphic novels
  • Architecture, photography, and art monographs in good condition
  • Eastern religion, philosophy, and political science
  • Decorative antiquarian books, and Easton, Franklin, or Folio editions
  • Complete tarot and oracle decks

What we don't buy much of

Due to overstock, we are not buying much YA or teen unless new or classic, pop mystery and suspense authors, Christianity other than C.S. Lewis and bibles, or recently published memoir, biography, and military history. We almost never buy textbooks, encyclopedias, books with any water or moisture damage, books that are dirty or smell of smoke, or hardcovers issued with a dust jacket that no longer have one.

Local zine consignment

It is easy to join our Local Zine Consignment Program. It is open to any current resident of San Diego or Tijuana. Bring a copy of your zine to the store during business hours and fill out a short form. We sell it on consignment and split the sale price with you 50/50. Keep bringing more and we will keep selling them. Retail price must be under $20.
